Every day you come across challenges and problems in your life. The question is, how do you respond?

The easy way for most people is to blame somebody else, make up an excuse or even deny there is a problem in the first place. This is called playing below the line. Such behavior is destructive because it fosters a victim mentality. With a victim mentality, failure is a self-fulfilling prophecy – the more often you fail, the more you can get used it and then you expect more failure and the more your actions you take to create even more failure. People who play below the line are called victims.

People who play below the line:

  • Blame other people

  • Make Excuses

  • Say they are the Victim

  • Are in Denial

Then there are people who play above the line. Playing above the line means that you are making a choice to take full ownership of the decisions you make, you are accountable for the actions you take and have acknowledged that you are 100% responsible for the results you achieve. Such behavior can be challenging, and can be outside your normal comfort zone. You need to ask yourself the really tough questions, and it can be frustrating, but the reward is that it fosters a victor mentality.

When you have a victor mentality, success becomes your self-fulfilling prophecy – the more you succeed at something, the more you start to get used to and then expect success, and then your actions create success. Naturally, people who play above the line are called Victors.

People who play above the line:

  • Take Ownership

  • Are Willing to be accountable (EVEN if it’s not their fault!)

  • Take Responsibility

  • Are Leaders

Even if you are the most confident and motivated person, you can be sure that you drop below the line more often than you realize notice. But if you keep at it, and can make the transition from thinking like a victim to thinking like a victor – and the rewards are huge.
